Meet Dr. Roberto Zaldivar

Roberto, scientific innovator

Roberto Zaldivar knew how to continue the step ways his father had initiated years earlier, by maintaining his modern vision and his constant pursuit for technological innovations, characteristics of the Institute since its beginnings, five decades ago.

At the age of 16, Roberto was accepted to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cuyo, founded by his father years ago.  From early childhood, Roberto was involved one way or another in the field of ophthalmology, participating with his parents at different conventions in the world of medicine. Thus, he graduated the top of his class when he was only 22 years old.

Absolutely methodical, organized and systematic, likewise creative and restless with a strong pulse that never not fail, Roberto Zaldivar went to Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. While there he attended the Kennedy family, various Arab sheiks and the Philippines’ opposing presidents Marco and Aquino. He also attended Argentineans who traveled to the Foundation to be operated by Dr. Simmons.

In 1983, Dr. Zaldivar obtained a scholarship offered by the Organization for Research and Prevention of Blindness that turned out to be very helpful during his stay in the United States.

By the time he decided to return to Mendoza in 1985, in order to continue with the work that his father had started, including Refractive and Cataract surgery; Roberto was already one of the most famous ophthalmologists in the world.  Among many other achievements, he had collaborated and assessed STAAR Surgical, a leading company in the ophthalmic industry.
