In 1959, Dr. Roger Eleazar Zaldivar founded the Zaldivar Institute in Mendoza: a pioneer and avant-garde center in outpatient ophthalmic surgery, transforming Mendoza into a research and development center and in ophthalmology. Decades later, he created the foundation that bears his name and spirit of social responsibility with more than 40,000 patients attended since its foundation.
Dr. Roberto Zaldivar continues the path his father started years ago, maintaining its ground-breaking technological vision and zeal for constant innovation that has characterized the Institute since its inception. Today, he finds himself at the head of the institution, together with his son Roger.
Excellence and specialization.
Zaldivar Institute specializes in cataract, corneal and refractive surgery. These procedures allows the patient “to eliminate or reduce its dependence” on glasses or contact lenses, according to the characteristics of each individual. Thanks to Dr. Zaldivar’s active participation in the research and development of intraocular implants (IOLs), patients now benefit from new therapeutic alternatives with Premium Lenses, such as multifocal, toric lenses or high definition IOLs that enhance patient´s visual quality; thus converting the institution in a unique surgical center in America. He has also distinguished himself in corneal surgery, pioneering the use of advanced laser technology to treat corneal diseases and becoming the first Argentinean center to perform corneal transplants with femtosecond laser technology.
Innovation and development.
As pioneers and avant-gardes in the creation of new techniques, procedures and surgical instruments, the Institute is equipped with diagnostic and surgical technology designed by Dr. Zaldivar which are currently used in many other centers of the world; and its procedures have been motive of numerous distinctions, such as the development of the implantable collamer intraocular lenses (ICL™) and its combined use with the excimer laser: an innovative and globally recognized procedure coined Bioptics, by Dr. Zaldivar. Forerunner also in the use of telemedicine, its information and communication network links its branches with highly sophisticated equipment prepared especially for virtual consultations, allowing the patients to be diagnosed remotely by the medical staff in Mendoza.
